Global Impact

Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity supports home building internationally through a tithe.

The tithe, a biblical and foundational principle of Habitat for Humanity, unites all Habitat entities through the sharing of blessings to support the work of building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter outside the U.S.

The tithe is viewed both as a sharing of the blessings that flow from God and as a tangible, meaningful commitment to Habitat’s global ministry and its vision of a world in which everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat currently operates in more than 70 countries around the world, including some of the world’s poorest nations. Habitat believes that there are blessings in both giving and receiving. Therefore, all Habitat entities are encouraged to tithe.

Through this tithe, Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity has helped to build homes in El Salvador, Haiti, Mexico as well as other families around the world.

In fiscal year 2016, over $27,000 was tithed to help 6 families with affordable housing. U.S. Habitats collectively tithed $13.8 million, which allowed Habitat national organizations to serve an additional 3,000+ families.
