It was her second stay at <em>House of Hope<\/em>, where she began piecing her life back together and dreaming of reuniting with her three boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Amy worked on her recovery, her father cared for her children. \u201cHe was everything for me and my kids,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen I couldn\u2019t take care of them, he stepped in. He never gave up on us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At House of Mercy in Des Moines, Amy found the tools she needed to heal\u2014especially around mental health. \u201cThat\u2019s when everything changed. I finally lost the desire to drink or use,\u201d she shared. \u201cMy recovery makes me a better mom, a better employee, a better person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through House of Hope, Amy learned about the Framing Hope program through Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity. She put in her sweat equity hours with determination, holding onto one dream\u2014giving her boys a home of their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, that dream is real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe love our house,\u201d Amy said, smiling. \u201cFor the first time, my kids each have their own room. I still walk around and think, <em>\u2018Is this really my house?\u2019<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Amy\u2019s home stands as a symbol of perseverance, love, and second chances. \u201cSix years ago, I couldn\u2019t imagine this life,\u201d she said. \u201cBut it gets better every day. My boys are happy, and so am I.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To the donors and volunteers who make stories like hers possible, Amy shares one final thought:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s worth every penny. This program changes lives.
