ReStore Department Manager

Employment Status: Full-time, Non-exempt
Reports To: ReStore General Manager

Position Description:
The ReStore Department Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the donation center, ensuring safety, organization, and cleanliness. This role focuses on inventory management, ThriftCart operations, and volunteer coordination, while ensuring an efficient and welcoming environment for donors, volunteers, and customers. Working closely with the ReStore General Manager, ReStore Assistant Manager, and Volunteer Coordinator, the Department Manager facilitates smooth inventory flow, manages communications, and oversees recycling and landfill processes. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, professionalism, and a commitment to exceptional customer service.

Essential Functions & Core Responsibilities:
include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized donation center, ensuring compliance to safety protocols and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee inventory management, including proper storage, tracking, backstock, and replenishment of donated and purchased products.
  • Collaborate with the ReStore General Manager to maintain ThriftCart inventory management and reporting accuracy.
  • Supervise and engage volunteers who work in the donation center and assist with carry-outs and stocking inventory, provide clear task assignments and ensure timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to all communications, including voicemails, donor inquiries, and customer requests.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining clear, effective signage for the donation center.
  • Manage all recycling pickups and landfill drop-offs, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of donation center areas, including break rooms and emergency exit areas.
  • Delegate and monitor tasks in the donation center areas, ensuring efficiency among volunteers and team members.
  • Represent IHHFH ReStore in a professional and positive manner, fostering strong relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, and customers.

Basic Job Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of ReStore operations, inventory, and best practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet research.
  • Experience with stock replenishment, inventory tracking, and reporting.
  • Prior experience with in-kind donations is a plus.
  • Familiar with OSHA safety standards and proper operation of heavy machinery.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with coworkers, volunteers, donors, and customers.
  • Knowledge of cash register and cash handling.
  • Dependable, team-oriented leader with the ability to work independently when needed.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and safely assisting with team lifts.
  • Able to lead and supervise in the absence of the ReStore General Manager or ReStore Assistant Manager.
  • Ability to work five, seven to ten hour-long shifts with a one-hour lunch break, Tuesday through Saturday, up to but not exceeding 42 hours per week unless approved by the ReStore General Manager.

Construction Site Supervisor

Employment Status: Full-time, non-exempt
Reports To: Project Manager

Position Description:
The Construction Site Supervisor is a vital member of Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity’s construction team. This position leads day-to-day site operations across new construction and extensive rehabs. This position provides confident, patient leadership for volunteer build teams and Iowa Heartland Habitat homebuyers completing sweat-equity hours as well as works independently or with other construction team members in the absence of volunteers. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with high integrity who sets and pursues clear goals for themselves and others, enjoys teaching safe, efficient building practices, and ensures an organized, positive on-site experience.

Essential Functions & Core Responsibilities:
include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and oversee on-site construction activity in alignment with plans, specifications, schedules, and quality standards, with particular focus on renovation scopes.
  • When volunteers or homebuyers are present, set and communicate clear daily goals that contribute to project progress and ensure a purposeful, positive experience.
  • Provide safe, hands-on instruction and leadership during volunteer/homebuyer build days, tailoring tasks to a wide range of abilities.
  • Champion jobsite safety: model best practices, conduct toolbox talks as needed, and proactively mitigate hazards.
  • Anticipate and resolve construction challenges to keep projects advancing on time and within scope; escalate issues appropriately.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Director and Project Manager to recommend cost-saving methods as needed.
  • Plan several days ahead for labor, tools, and materials: coordinate deliveries and staging to maintain productivity.
  • Maintain a clean, organized jobsite; safeguard tools, equipment, trailers, and materials; track condition and request replacements when needed.
  • Complete warranty punch lists and repairs on completed projects with urgency and professionalism.
  • Meet agreed-upon short- and long-term goals established with the Construction Director and Project Manager.
  • Help keep the warehouse organized to support overall site efficiency.

Basic Job Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Extensive hands-on experience in residential wood-frame construction, with renovation/rehab proficiency.
  • High integrity, reliable work ethic, and a results-oriented, self-motivated approach to field work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to teach and lead diverse volunteers and homebuyers with patience and respect.
  • Ability to exercise sensitivity and compassion in a wide range of situations.
  • Ability to apply construction expertise within Habitat’s mission, culture, and community-focused approach.
  • Proven ability to lead, supervise, and motivate individuals and teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret residential construction drawings and specifications.
  • Solid math skills for measurements, takeoffs, and quantity calculations.
  • Commitment to the vision and mission of Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity.
  • Ability and desire to work at Tuesday-Saturday, 7:30am-4:00pm workday schedule. Some work outside of those hours will also be required on a very occasional basis.
  • Willingness to see construction as part of a larger goal that strengthens families and neighborhoods.
  • Valid driver’s license.

ReStore Donation Ambassador

Employment Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Reports To: ReStore Manager

Position Description: Promotes the overall mission of Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity (IHHFH) by being a friendly and personable Habitat representative when working with donors to the ReStore. Responsible for the pick-up and unpacking of merchandise from donors in the community. Responsible for receiving, organizing, cleaning and carrying out donations when at the store. Work is performed in individuals’ homes, at businesses, and in a retail/warehouse environment. 16-hour work week, Tuesday-Friday 1:30pm-5:30pm.

  • Operate forklift, if necessary, and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to safely drive the ReStore vehicles to pick up donated goods.
  • Ability to adapt to extreme hot or cold working conditions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Screen donations for product usability. Load and unload all donated materials with care.
  • Communicate with ReStore Manager regarding incoming donations.
  • Work with and help supervise volunteers, making their experience meaningful.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with ReStore staff, volunteers, Habitat homebuyers and ReStore customers.
  • Ensure all ReStore donors receive a copy of their donation receipt upon pick-up or drop-off.
  • Log all donations as they are received.
  • Clean and straighten ReStore vehicles, equipment, drop-off area and receiving area.
  • Assist with organizing inventory/storage room and testing/cleaning donations.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with minimum of 6-months work experience.
  • Driver’s license and a good driving record; pass criminal background and sexual offender checks.
