Abigail is a 33-year-old mother of three girls and two boys.

Since the birth of Abigail’s oldest child, their family has never stayed in a house longer than a few years. The houses they rented have broken down or have not been functional for a family of five.

It was about 3 years ago when Abigail connected with Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity for the first time and applied for the homeownership program. She found out she was denied due to her financial situation.

“I took it upon myself to figure out the steps I needed to take to lower my debt and get my credit to where it needed to be to qualify for the program. It took me about 2 years to pay debts off to be sure I was financially able to qualify for the program,” Abigail stated.

Abigail’s motivation and hard work paid off. She qualified for the program.

“Four years ago I would have never thought that I would be buying a house. Through this program I was given the opportunity to do just that. And now my children and I are so excited to start this new adventure and finally be able to call this house our own home.”
